CEO’S MESSAGE

This year’s national Mummy’s Wish Hike campaign kicks off next week and we’re thrilled to have five hikes now registered – all in QLD! Our goal for this year is to have 10 hikes organised and raise $25,000, and we’d love to see groups registered from each state. This national campaign is inspired by one of the mums we supported, Annette Azzopardi, and we continue her legacy. Read on to find out how you can become involved this October – it’s simple!

A big thank you to our fabulous partners who have organised some stand-out events recently, including the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust CAMILLA event, Cobild’s Resilience Challenge and the upcoming Big Lunch.

Our community has also been generously supporting us through fundraising efforts, like our inspiring Mummy’s Wish mums, Samantha and Amrit. It’s been lovely to connect with mums we’ve supported at recent events – thanks to jewellery designer, Nicole Winkler, for joining me at the Women’s Agenda Leadership Awards, where I was gratefully named a finalist, and Kelly-Anne Talbot for her beautiful job as keynote speaker at the CAMILLA event.

The small team at Mummy’s Wish is doing a wonderful job amongst increasing demand from referrers and mums. We know the practical support we provide to mums is invaluable. We are also thrilled to welcome Dr Mellissa Naidoo as a Mum Ambassador & Board Advisor – Health Strategy. Mummy’s Wish supported Mellissa back in 2013 and she now gives back through fundraising and helping to increase our profile. What an asset to our organisation.

We are now in planning mode for upcoming campaigns, including our Christmas Appeal and Giving Day next year. We are seeking mutually beneficial partnerships and have lots of ways to become involved. If you are an organisation or foundation looking to partner with a charity, we encourage you to email us on corporate@mummyswish.org.au for more details.

Because after all, a mum with cancer is still a mum.

Kind regards,

Angelique and the team

PRACTICAL SUPPORT FOR MUMS

2022 Impact – January to August

Kind Words from a Mummy’s Wish Mum

“The lovely bears arrived yesterday and the kids love them. I gave the bears to them last night as it coincided with the eclipse, and we always say we love each other to the moon and back, so I thought it would be a nice memory of the special night we all stood outside as a family and watched the moon transform,” – Tonia, QLD

Meet Alex, a Corporate Fundraiser Inspired by the Cause

Alex Hood, Senior Customer Success Manager at LinkedIn, has fundraised for Mummy’s Wish on three separate occasions, and will continue to do so in the future, purely because he is “inspired by the cause”.

Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust CAMILLA event – $20,000

This inspiring and momentous event took place in Brisbane last month. A huge thanks to everyone who attended, supported, sponsored and contributed. It was an honour to have Camilla Franks in attendance and showcase her beautiful and colourful designs. We were delighted to be able to connect with Camilla and her incredible team.

Camilla is a breast cancer survivor and mother and as she said on the day, the grassroots work that charities such as Mummy’s Wish do cannot be underestimated. Mummy’s Wish mum, Kelly-Anne Talbot generously shared her story as a keynote speaker at the event and did an amazing job. Thank you and well done, Kelly-Anne.  Many thanks to Nina Schrinner, Lady Mayoress of Brisbane and Chair of the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust, for your ongoing support and to all the event partners and sponsors.

Cobild’s Resilience Challenge – $23,256

Would you jump in an ice bath on a Melbourne winter morning to raise funds for cancer? Some of the Cobild team and their collaborators braved the cold and did just this! So far they’ve raised $23, 256 of their pledge to raise $50,000 for Mummy’s Wish. A big thanks to the Cobild Miracle Committee for selecting us as their charity partner and first miracle. As the team said: “The energy was truly electric with everyone rallying around and supporting one another.”

Also, thanks to their fantastic event sponsors: Lars Ice Bath International, JV RecruitmentFortis and DJ Be Kind to Other People.

Special Event for Mummy’s Wish Families

Our Mummy’s Wish mums were recently provided an exclusive opportunity by a Mummy’s Wish supporter to see a wonderful performance in Brisbane. Some 50 families and 120 family members and supporters attended the show. We know how important making special memories like these means to our mums and we are so thankful we were able to facilitate this occasion for our community. Thank you!

Running my heart out to help mums with cancer – $3,011

On 18 September, Susan van Erven Dorens ran in the Sydney Running Festival marathon to raise funds for Mummy’s Wish. We recently helped Susan’s friend Michelle and her family and thinking about what Michelle and other friends have overcome in the past year inspired her to keep training and got her over the finish line. Congratulations on your efforts Susan and thank you!

In 2013, Brisbane doctor Mellissa was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer 37-years-old and the mother of two girls under the age of four. During her treatment, Mellissa says Mummy’s Wish stood out as the one organisation that made the biggest difference to her family’s day-to-day life.
