Mummy’s Wish Hike
Mummy’s Wish is inviting you to get fit and have fun with friends while supporting mums with cancer by organising a hike this October.
About the Campaign
In November 2017, Mummy’s Wish mum Annette Azzopardi was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After a year “she would never wish upon her worst enemy” Annette was given the all-clear. To celebrate, her and her husband Alan hiked Walsh’s Pyramid to raise over $3000 for Mummy’s Wish.
Sadly, Annette’s cancer returned more aggressively and she passed away on 12th March 2019. But that didn’t stop her friends and family from hiking Walsh’s Pyramid in Annette’s honour, raising $5,746 in 2020.
Annette showed tremendous courage at every step of her cancer treatment. Now, Annette’s family and friends are inviting you to join them, taking steps to fight cancer by hosting a walk or hike in October.
Mummy’s Wish Hike Goals
Mummy’s Wish walks in the shoes’ of 1000 mums with cancer every year, giving them room to breathe by providing tailored practical support. By taking on some of the day-to-day burdens faced during treatment, this gives mums the gift of time to make memories with their younger children.
But Mummy’s Wish cannot continue providing these services without the generous support of our fundraisers and donors. That’s why we have set the following goals:
- Seven hiking CrowdRaisers (find out how to champion a hike here or create a CrowdRaiser here)
- $20,000 fundraised
Will you lead a hiking fundraiser? It’s time to step up on behalf of the mums who have fought the fight against cancer. Take steps in memory of those lost, take steps in celebration of those who have survived, and take steps to support the mums, family and children who have been left behind.

If you get stuck, you can find step-by-step instructions here.
3. Join our FB Group
We have set up a Facebook group for all our hiking leaders and participants to share their ideas, ask questions and collaborate. Join now here.
Share your hiking journey with your friends, family and colleagues. Make sure to take lots of photos and videos before, during and after the hike to keep your network involved!
Follow Mummy’s Wish on social media and share our posts.
The most effective way to engage participants and donors is to talk to them one-on-one. Talking about cancer is hard, but it’s not as hard as being a mum with cancer.
Did you know…
- The average Australian adult accumulates about 7,400 steps a day. That’s 2,600 steps less than recommended. This is a great chance to hit your stepping goal!
- You can walk or hike any distance or difficulty
- There is no minimum number of team members
- You can hike in lockdown! Whether walking laps around your neighbourhood, or on the treadmill, every step is a step closer to achieving our $20,000.
